Barry Bakin, an ESL teacher in Los Angeles, recently shared an intriguing site (and some good ideas on how to use it) on a listserv.  McDonald’s has a Bag A Meal activity where you “drag and drop” items from its menu and then see the calorie count of your selections.

Barry suggested going to other fast-food sites, and then comparing/contrasting the different nutritional totals.

One thing I thought you could do with that type of information is have students create a Venn Diagram, and then ask them to convert it into an essay/illustrated book.

Of course, it would be important to do a project like this while students were learning about something like the Food Pyramid….
