I learned about Planetfesto from the eHub blog.  The aim of Planetfesto is create a virtual ribbon that would virtually be large enough to wrap around the earth.  Each site visitor creates their own six inch piece of this ribbon.

Its purpose to make people more aware of protecting the environment.  The community organizer in me has serious questions how politically effective this tactic will be.

However, as a teacher of English Language Learners I have to say it’s a helpful site for students.  They can easily create, design, and write on their own piece of ribbon, and it can certainly be used as part of a conversation with students about environmental awareness.  It can also be part of a discussion exploring what kind of social change activities are most effective.

I’ve placed it on my Examples of Student Work page under Student Ribbons.
