Human Rights Day Coming Up

Posted at 8:18 am under social studies, teacher resources

Alice Mercer has just pointed out that December 10th is Human Rights Day. She has great resources and suggestions for teachers who want to engage their students about this important topic.

I think it’s particularly relevant to our English Language Learner students, many who came to the United States because they are political or economic refugees  (yes, I believe — as does the UN Declaration of Human Rights — that economic justice, too, is a “right”).

Larry, thank you so much for sharing this!

Also, any readers who have stories from students that are refugees would be especially welcomed because they give a personal context to some of the numbers and places that float around. It puts a face on the stories.
