Flashphone is a new web application that allows you to call anywhere for free. The extraordinary feature about this site is that no download is required — all you need is a mike and Flash installed on your computer.
I haven’t gotten a chance to try it yet, but TechCrunch says the audio quality is acceptable.
It’s just begun, and the number of calls you can make is limited, but they apparently plan on expanding their free services pretty dramatically.
Having this kind of free browser-based service would make it a lot easier for classes to be able to develop connections to “sister-classrooms” around the world — both for language-learning and for cultural exchange.
I have the link on my Teacher’s Page under Telephone.
Happy Thanksgiving from Canada, Larry! I’m very thankful for all that you invest in finding and sharing resources. Although your primary focus is ESL, the majority of applications and resources that you write about are valuable to the wider educational community. As someone involved in special ed, I’m convinced that ALL special educators would be richly rewarded for subscribing to your Websites of the Day. Thank you!
Paul,
Thanks for leaving such a nice comment. We have a mutual admiration society, since I’ve obviously encouraged ESL teachers to read your blog, too!
