I know Google Transit has been around for a few months, but it’s exciting now that Sacramento has just been added to the list of areas that it covers. In fact, this addition is so new Sacramento isn’t even listed yet on the Google Transit website as being included — but it is.

By typing in your starting address and ending address, along with your time parameters, it’ll show you an actual map of the route, including times of buses or Light Rail, and walking distances and the time length of these walks. You can then also paste the url of your route on a webpage or online journal.

I can see my students using this tool to help them in their project of comparing neighborhoods, particularly access to mass transit. It can be just one more piece of the puzzle, like Walk Score.

I’ve placed the link on my Examples of Student Work page under Student Neighborhood Maps.
