Recently released, pleasantly mature, simplified Diigo 4.0 beta fits those criteria, and others.

Mariam and Larry,

I would really appreciate you taking a look at LiveBinders, it is a site that a lot of teachers are using for visually grouping both bookmarks and uploaded documents. It does have a private sharing option and shows the sites within the binders.

I would love to hear your thoughts on it. http://www.livebinders.com

Thanks!

I like to use Diigo.com in my EAL class. I really like the highlighting tool - one student can read, highlight relevant sentences or ideas, bookmark and share to our group. These highlights then show-up as text when looking at the bookmark in Diigo. Once everyone has done this, we have a whole list of annotations that can be used to complete a specific task.

Am keen to investigate many of your other options though!

Miriam,

Tizmos isn't "private", but the only people would see it is if they knew your exact url. In fact, that's probably true for most of them. People could only add to it, though, if they had a password.

Larry:
I'm looking for a social bookmarking tool that allows for private groups but also allows snapshots of the site. I didn't see that particular combination in your descriptions. Can you recommend one?
thanks -

David,

Good point, and thanks for suggesting buzka. I've seen the excellent EFL Classroom filled with resources, but just forgot about the application. I'll check it out further.

Larry,

I agree on your criteria but one more must be on the list -- simplicity (at least of use!). I think most of these try to do toooo much. For example, however flashy web2wave is, it is just too visually distractive and takes time to load...too dark also. Doing toooo much!

Have you seen our buzka at EFL Classroom 2.0 http://eflclassroom.buzka.com
I like this application from Perth Australia! Young, smart developers with a collaborative notion . You can share a buzka button in your browse - click and bookmark to a shared page. Also photo sharing and community. Just another option!
