Averil Coxhead compiled the Academic Word List, but Gerry Luton, an ESL instructor at the University of Victoria, built the site and vocabulary exercises to which you have linked. Gerry (along with Martin Holmes of Hot Potatoes) also created the software (Gerry's Vocabulary Teacher) that makes the vocabulary exercises for the Academic Word List.
