The Girl In The Window is an amazing story from the St. Petersburg Times in Florida. It’s a multimedia presentation about a two year odyssey of a seven year old girl who was, as they describe it, a “feral child.”

The story says “police found a girl lying in her roach-infested room…communicated only through grunts…deprived of her humanity by a lack of nurturing.”

By opening-up two windows on your computer, students can read the text and have it read to them by the reporter who wrote the story. Some of the vocabulary might be challenging for English Language Learners, but the story is so engrossing that many will want to fight through it and watch and listen to the audio and video as well.

I’ve placed the link on my website under Reading.
