That is a very good question, since that’s what this post is about.

Really, though, it’s about his newest movie that opened yesterday and, much to my surprise,  at least according to this New York Times movie review, it has a Hmong refugee family as a central part of the story.

Apparently, Eastwood plays a retired man with racist feelings. A Hmong refugee family movies next door, and, under pressure from a gang, the teenaged Hmong boy tries to steal Eastwood’s Gran Torino (which is the name of the movie). As penance, the boy is forced by his family to work for Eastwood.

Out of it comes, according to the title of the movie review: Hope for a Racist, and Maybe a Country.

I’m looking forward to seeing the movie, and will be very interested in seeing what Hmong viewers think of it.
