BookRix is a new site that appears to let you very easily upload a document which is then turned into an embeddable virtual book.
I use the word “appears” because I really haven’t had time to try it out yet. It does look easy-to-use, and the final product has a neat interface that I think students would like. The site also seems to have a fairly strict code on content suitability. In addition, you can upload audio books, though I haven’t had time to see if you can record directly on the site or if you have to upload your own mp3 recording.
It’s worth checking out further, but I’m not ready to add it to The Best Places Where Students Can Write For An “Authentic Audience”.
If you get a chance to try it out, please let me know what you think.
Hi,
This does look neat! I even read a short story and the reader works pretty well.
I’ve linked to your blog and website. I’m still re-vamping mine but put up quite a few free resources that should tide things over until next summer. Unless I find some time over this school year…
Thanks for all the good information!
Hey Larry, this is a great find. I was able to upload my “book” to their site. It is really nice and would be even better if they had built-in filtering.
Click here to see what the “finished” product would look like…

Mr. Kapuler! Just checked out your book on BookRix and THANK YOU – I’ve already tried embedit and that is the best thing ever! I use Google Sites and was afraid I would have to list everything as an attachment. The google gadget works great!
Don’t thank me, Larry does all the leg work w/ his excellent resources. I just do the fun stuff and try all these cool things out!!
Oh, I thank him too and have put several links on my website to him! I’m glad I found the techies to hang out with. Visual Thesaurus (Vocagrabber) looks great and I’m going to talk to our IT person to see if we can add that at our school.
Why is there no standard for ebooks rather than a mix of many?
