I'm honored to be included in your list, considering the quality of the other pieces included. Not that I've read them all, but the ones I've read are certainly worthy, and I look forward to reading the others.

Just for the record, I'm from Palo Alto, south of you, but not what most Californians think of as Southern California. (Though I was born and raised in L.A.). And the op-ed piece was co-authored by Alex Kajitani, a math teacher from San Diego, CA Teacher of the Year for 2009, also known as The Rappin' Mathematician.
