The Heichenger Ed Report has a nice summary of a major study released yesterday that raises questions about using test scores to evaluate teachers:

In a typical rating system aimed at identifying poorly performing teachers, one in four teachers whose performance is fine could be misidentified as bad. At the same time, teachers whose students underperform had a one in four chance of being mislabeled as average performers.

I had taken a quick look at the study yesterday morning, but, as the Heichenger Report indicates, it was “rather dry” and I just couldn’t bring myself to read it.

School Finance 101 also has an analysis of the report.

I’ll be adding this resource to The Best Resources For Learning About The “Value-Added” Approach Towards Teacher Evaluation.
