Last week, thousands rallied at the Texas State Capitol to protest $9 billion in proposed cuts to education.
John Kuhn, superintendent of Perrin-Whitt Consolidated Independent School District, spoke at the rally, and here is a video of his speech:
Thanks to Anthony Cody, the a writer of a “must-read” blog at Education Week, for the tip.
I agree with Supt Kuhn of Texas. We are facing the same thing in the state of SD. The state is balancing its’ budget on the backs of our children by cutting, cutting funding to education.
Public schools do accept all children no matter where they come from, what they have, how physically and mentally impaired they are, and how cognitively low they are. We provide a free appropriate public education and never before have public schools done a better job.
To our governor and legislators, our children are our greatest resource, yet you continue to short change the very vehicle that can make our state and nation great, K-12 public education. Teachers are putting forth tremendous time and effort to prepare our young to educate themselves throughout their lives. Knowledge is power. Where are you, what are you doing to enhance this effort??
