I’ve written a fair amount about John Norton, who has been a mentor to many over the years.
He’s well known for many things, including his freeMiddleweb Of Particular Interest email newsletter and his Middleweb blog.
He’s just revamped his excellent email newsletter, and it looks great. He tells me he’s now using the MailChimp service, and I’m also now adding it to The Best Applications For Creating Free Email Newsletters.
Larry – thanks so much for the kind words and the nod. Yes, we’ve moved the MiddleWeb newsletter into the HTML age (grin), kicking and screaming. Like some of our teacher subscribers, I liked the plain text oldie – just get down to business. But with reputable mail services like Mail Chimp (and many others) you get much better delivery rates. In the world of email, the filters don’t care much about your intentions.
I really do love MailChimp – this is a totally unpaid and unsolicited endorsement from me, but they’ve been super helpful … both with tutorials and help forum and with instant chat help as needed. I’ve used another service some and this is miles better. They have a free level of service for up to 2000 subscribers an 12,000 emails a month. That’s pretty nice. Deserves to be on your list.
I hope folks will subscribe if they have an interest in free web resources around grades 4-8 education. My colleague Susan Curtis and I are doing this together now — and she’s a librarian. It can only get better. 🙂
