Being intrinsically motivated, which I interpret to English Language Language Learners as “having an appetite for learning” and “perseverance,” are some of the qualities researches have found in successful language learners.
Here’s a great video demonstrating “having an appetite for learning” and I’m adding it to The Best Videos Illustrating Qualities Of A Successful Language Learner:
LEARN from Rick Mereki on Vimeo.
So I like the video. And I like the concept of “appetite for learning” (I use perseverance, but I think the eating metaphor can be strong.”
My reservations….the response I think that will come from the students: “He was learning fun stuff.” Because no matter how hard I try…for most students, I can’t make learning history the equivalent of riding an elephant, or leaning flamenco in Spain, or performing parkour in front of the Eiffel Tower.
But I did like the video.
