Do You Use TPR Storytelling In Teaching ESL/EFL?

I’ve certainly been aware of the concept of using Teaching Proficiency through Reading and Storytelling (TPRS) in teaching a second language but, to tell the truth, I’ve never really explored it much.

Education Week Teacher has just published an article by a Spanish-language teacher briefly described how she uses it.

Have you tried TPR Storytelling in teaching ESL/EFL? What has been your experience — both good and bad? How does it look in your classroom? What online resources would you recommend?

I’d like to learn more, and would also put suggestions and comments in a “The Best…” list on it.

  1. Dear Larry, I am an ESL teacher in Istanbul, Turkey and have been using story telling in my classes for many years. May I suggest you the book ” Once Upon a Time” by John Morgan and Mario Rinvolucri printed by Cambridge University Press, ISBN 0-521-27262-9 . I am sure you will enjoy and learn a lot from it.
