Where are you on the global fat scale? is the name of an interactive just posted by the BBC. I sort of wish they could have come up with a different name, but it provides some fascinating, if depressing, information.

You type in your gender, height, weight, country and age and then you’re compared to people like you in your country and just about every other country.

My BMI, for example, led it to say “You have a lower BMI than 67% of males aged 45-59 in your country.”

That’s good, right?

But then under “global” it said “You have a higher BMI than 71% of males aged 45-59 in the world.”

That’s not so good.

Then it said “If everyone in the world had the same BMI as you, it would add 42,856,987 tonnes to the total weight of the world’s population.”

That’s really not good at all.

I’m adding the interactive to The Best Sites For Learning About Nutrition & Food Safety.
