We begin our ninth-grade English classes with a unit on natural disasters — students always find it very engaging.

The first lesson in the unit is a “world splash,” where we introduce important vocabulary without us teachers actually providing the definitions. As part of that lesson, we show a video collage of different natural disasters.

The clip we usually show is getting a bit “stale,” so I’ve found this list that might serve as a replacement(s). Let me know if you have other suggestions.

Also, you might be interested in A Compilation Of “The Best…” Lists About Natural Disasters, which has multimedia resources on many natural disasters that have occurred over the past several years and throughout history.

Additional suggestions are welcome.
