Teacher union locals from San Francisco and Oakland have now joined ones from Los Angeles, Fresno and Sacramento in refusing to support their district applications for Race To The Top funds (see this morning’s San Francisco Chronicle article, “S.F., Oakland drop bid for U.S. school funds”).

I continue to be pleased by the solidarity demonstrated by California teachers who recognize that measuring teacher quality by student test scores is bad for students, teachers and our communities. I was honored to be on the state task force this year that developed recommendations more effective teacher evaluation strategies.
