I’ve written a lot about “What If?” projects I have both my ELL history and IB Theory of Knowledge students do (see The Best Resources For Teaching “What If?” History Lessons).

The Economist does a similar, but different, annual feature called “The World If.” In their series of articles, they try to project potential future scenarios — for example, if Donald Trump was president.
