Today is Women’s Equality Day:

At the behest of Rep. Bella Abzug (D-NY), in 1971 the U.S. Congress designated August 26 as “Women’s Equality Day.”

The date was selected to commemorate the 1920 certifiation of the 19th Amendment to the Constitution, granting women the right to vote.

A few days ago I posted 19th Amendment Ratified On This Day In 1920 – Here Are Resources On Women’s Suffrage.  However, I think ratification and certification are two different things.

Earlier today, The White House also issued Presidential Proclamation — Women’s Equality Day, 2016.
