“It’s About ‘Quality, not Quantity, of School Time'”

It’s About ‘Quality, not Quantity, of School Time’ is the headline of my latest Education Week Teacher column.

In it, Elliot Y. Merenbloom, Barbara A. Kalina, Thomas R. Hoerr, Erik M. Francis, Andrew Miller, and Effuah Sam contribute their ideas on extending or not extending the school year/day.

Here are some excerpts:

I’m adding it to The Best Resources On The Idea Of Extending The School Day.

  1. An output-based educational system, creatively executed, can result in the formation of highly motivated students who don’t just assimilate information by rote, but rather integrate the essence of the lesson into their lives. Too much focus on quantity, especially in cases where the student may have already reached a momentary point of saturation, would be, to me, a sad mistake.
