New Orleans Mayor Mitch Landrieu gave a speech on the removal of Confederate Monuments from his city, and it (or, at least, excerpts from it) will be a “must-read” piece in IB Theory of Knowledge and History classes around the country.
Here are two places to read the transcript: at The Pulse and at The Atlantic.
Here’s the video:
Here’s a New York Times column on the speech: Mitch Landrieu Reminds Us That Eloquence Still Exists
I’m adding it to A Collection Of Useful Posts, Articles & Videos On Race & Racism – Help Me Find More.
Thank you SO much for sharing this! We had a philosophy club group meeting this week at which the removal of Confederate monuments was one of the topics. It was lively–and very Tough, without having all the information and background! Then a member of our group sent us your blog. Mayor Landrieu’s speech resolved so many of my ethical confusions. I’m sending it on to everyone, including my friends and family in the South, where I grew up.
If I hadn’t been moved to thank you for this, here, I would not have learned you were a high school teacher in Sacramento, CA, which also delighted me. So is my daughter!
All best wishes to you and yours,
Shirley
Glad you found it useful!
