Study Finds Calling Transgender Youth Their Chosen Name Helps – Teachers Should Follow That Guide For Every Student


Using chosen names reduces odds of depression and suicide in transgender youths is the headline of a new report in Science Daily.

Here’s an excerpt:

It’s disappointing to me to know that there are teachers who might choose to not call a transgender youth by that youth’s chosen name.

Jeez, I’ve always felt we should use whatever name a student prefers to be used. I once called a student “Prince” for an entire school year because that’s what he told me he wanted to be called.
