There have been a lot of “lows” in the Trump Administration’s attacks on undocumented immigrants.
But this may be the lowest:
ICE arrested undocumented immigrants who came forward to take in undocumented children is from CNN today.
No wonder the government can locate 1500 children who have been released from custody. Why would anyone want to tell them where they are?
I can understand the bad optics of this, but if I go down to the local jail to bail out my sweet, little old grandmother, and I have warrants – the corrections staff will run a check of my criminal history when I enter the facility.
I will then be arrested for my warrants. This is not a “low” – we have a legal system of laws and rules. If one violates those rules, the reason they are at the facility does not discredit or supercede their legal status.
The facility does not arrest “people bailing out grandmas”, they arrest people with warrants.
Similarly, ICE does not arrest “people picking up children”, they arrest people with illegal status.
