Kate Kinsella is a San Francisco professor who has developed a number of excellent strategies to help English Language Learners (and other students) gain a grasp of academic vocabulary.  She points out that there’s been more talk lately about helping helping understand vocabulary, but little on how to help them use it.

Delondra Williams, a Los Angeles area teacher, has recently written a nice summary of one of Ms. Kinsella’s suggestions. After recently attending a workshop Ms. Kinsella gave,  I began using these same strategies in my classroom.

Thanks to Marian Thacher for sharing Ms. Williams’ blog.
