I recently posted about how the popular Facebook application Scrabulous could now be played by non-Facebook members. I also shared my reservations about how useful it was for English Language Learners.
This month the real Scrabble came online, and I think it’s much better for English Language Learner students. You can play as a guest against the computer, there’s a very accessible online dictionary, and it’s very easy to play.
I’ve placed the link on my website under Word and Video Games.
Larry,
I’ve had a hoot the past number of months reading about the feud over “scrabble” and the two companies using it online…..
That said, I prefer Scrabble Blast http://zone.msn.com/binGame/SBLS/default/loader.swf
Really addictive and we have much more like this all collected on our game page on EFL Classroom 2.0. Click and play and I really think one of the largest/best directories of language only games around.
Enjoy, this is the crack of word smashing!

Dear Larry:
as usual I tried to explore some of your great suggestions. But this time when I signed up Scrabble and clicked to play, the message was:
“Sorry, SCRABBLE is only available to residents of the USA, Canada or their respective territories.”
GRRRR.
I wonder why I would be allowed to sign up if I’m from Argentina…
A hug

could be licensing restrictions. Sometimes the big companies only let certain parts of the world play their games 🙁
Those online ones aren’t bad. There is a download one that has a great Scrabble dictionary feature you can use to learn some cool words, especially the highscoring 3 letter ones. I got the game here:
