After having a surprisingly unattractive website on the Star Spangled Banner for years, the Smithsonsian Institution just unveiled a new one. It’s called…The Star Spangled Banner. The new site coincides with the opening of a new physical gallery about the flag.
The site is much more accessible to English Language Learners than the previous one. There’s relatively simple text, it talks both about the War of 1812 and the flag, and there’s a good quiz and a feature where you can interact with the flag itself.
I’ve placed the link both on my United States History website page and my U.S. History Class Blog.
Hello and Merry Christmas. I just wanted to thank you for all the great ideas you share during the year. I have used quite a few with my fifth graders. I appreciate all the time you spend on this for us.

Larry,
Thanks for posting this. I’ve been researching the War of 1812 (with an emphasis on the music of the era) with the intention of putting together a War of 1812/Star Spangled Banner program for schools. The Smithsonian SSB site is a great resource.
