I’ve posted in the past both about Animoto and their newer site, Animoto Education Program.
Both let you easily create videos with music. At first, Animoto didn’t have the ability to include text in the video, which limited its use as a language-development activity for English Language Learners. They added that capability late last year, but, when they did that, I forgot to add them to the The Best Ways For Students To Create Online Videos (Using Someone Else’s Content).
So this post is just to let people know that Animoto has now been added to that list.
A great way to add text to Animoto is to use PowerPoint. Create a slide with text and save it as a jpg. that can be added to Animoto along with your pictures. This way you have the advantage of being able to use different font styles, colours and sizes.
I wish I knew about the PowerPoint tip earlier. DARN. Anyway, here’s a 6th grade project published today.

Here are other animoto projects published today.
Here’s some background. This is their morning (current events) work. In groups, they’re assigned a news “section” every week. They choose a story from their “section” on Monday/Tuesday, and craft a presentation for Friday. They have from 8:15-8:40, M-F to work on it. We begin the year with posters, move to slideshows, saunter into podcasts, and I decided to make the last couple of weeks interesting with animoto.
