Teacher Magazine has just published my article “How To Use Leftover Class Time Wisely.”
You have to register at the magazine for free to view the whole article, but it’s a quick and easy process.
The article functions as Part One in my two part piece on What Do You Do When You Have A Few Minutes Left In Class? Part Two will appear in this blog next week. Both are parts of my What Do You Do? series of posts.
Consider contributing to the next topic in this series: What Do You Do On The First Day Of School?
All of your suggested activities for using left-over class time will be very helpful to any teacher. However, there’s one activity that I would like to add to the list: self-selected sustained silent reading. Students at all grade levels benefit, both personally and academically, from time given for reading whatever interests them. Perhaps this end-of-class reading time will be in part 2 of “How to Use Left-Over Classroom Time Wisely.”
Larry,
I read your article this am and I was delighted to see all the resources you are providing for teachers. It is amazing that you have the energy for what appears to be another full time job. My hat is off to you- well if I had a hat.
Hope all is going well at Luther Burbank. I intend to bookmark this site and check in on what you find. As we both know the art of teaching includes quite a bit of stealing ideas from others. I guess we could call it sharing 🙂
Cynthia
Enlightening article regarding practical matters of teaching, thank you for avoiding useless ‘theories’!!!
