I’ve written previously about the federal grant competition to develop the next generation of state tests (see Want To Learn About The Next Generation Of Tests We’ll Be Giving Our Students? and How Should Teachers Respond To The Development Of New State Assessments?).

Today, the Department of Education announced the grantees. The Hechinger Ed report has a very good explanation of the results and what it might mean for all of us.

I personally have been partial to the SMARTER consortium, one of the recipients of the grant. After reading the Hechinger report I’m sure it will be clear why I believe that holds more promise for teachers and students.
