Phile is a new web application that lets you create your own social network site that can be open to the public or private.
They say its purpose is to “create a lasting body of knowledge just by talking about the things you love,” but that just seems to be a fancy way of saying its a place to create a social network. Perhaps I’m missing something?
It does seem pretty easy to use.
I’m adding it to Not “The Best,” But “A List” Of Social Network Sites.
Hi Larry. Thanks for mentioning us.
I think the main difference between us and the various social network builders out there (at least the ones we’ve seen) is our emphasis on persistent, structured information. So you can create a user-edited database of San Francisco schools (community.thesfkfiles.com) or cookbooks (library.101cookbooks.com), with a particular community perspective. But in a way that feels a lot like a social network.
In spirit, I think we have as much in common with wikis as with social network sites. We’re trying to combine the usefulness of a wiki (as a user-generated community resource) with social network dynamics.
Anyway, that’s just my two cents.
