English Central is, in my mind at least, clearly the most useful site for English Language Learners that’s on the Web. It’s on a zillion of “The Best…” lists, usually ranked number one. It was really difficult to believe that they could get any better.
But they just did.
Thanks to David Deubelbeiss, I learned they’ve added a whole new vocabulary building component to the site. My students use the site twice each week, but I hadn’t noticed the addition.
So, now, I’m adding English Central to another “The Best…” list — The Best Sites Where ELL’s Can Learn Vocabulary.
I COMPLETELY agree with your opinion about EnglishCentral, being ‘clearly the most useful site for English Language Learners…” but, you should mention that it comes to a not to neglect prize.
It’s THE program I recommend to my social project students -who are absolutely having not a penny to offer and I’m more than happy that the original EnglishCentral stays ‘open-and-free’ but I have to tell that it hurts a bit to see that all these absolutely wonderful extra’s most likely will not be available to them…}
I already corresponded with Travis from EnglishCentral and he’s talking about discounts for teachers to come but..since I’m working with rapidly changing different small groups of underpriviliged youth it probably will be no option for me.
Too bad because it just has become the all-in-one program for pronunciation & vocabulary needs!

Willem
Larry,
Thanks for mentioning English Central so other teachers might check it out. I’m still involved on an informal level and really can say that they are implementing things with the working teacher and self – directed learning especially in mind.
They do know they have to do a better job for the education community and this will be a renewed focus in the months to come. They’ve assured me. This will begin by giving teachers more input and control as well as facilitating communication with teachers and educational stakeholders.
What I like about English Central is what I liked at the beginning – a focus on great technology, wrapped up in a simple package that aims to contextualize. They “get it” and that’s what attracts me to their work – they also put excitement back into learning , with all the possibility their interface offers.
I hope larger institutions and organizations will follow and help build English Central through their support. There are some exciting things on the horizon.
Thanks again,
David
