Hello,
Thanks, Larry for keeping current news posted about Wisconsin’s struggles. The Wisconsin Budget Repair Bill Facebook page has links to articles and pictures starting from the weekend of Saturday February 19th. http://www.facebook.com/WIBudgetRepairBillProtests
The national focus has been the attacks on public sector workers but the people of Wisconsin have even more at stake. Wisconsin ranks 7th in the nation in child homelessness. This rank is a composite of the number of children currently homeless in the state, an assessment of how children are faring in various domains (i.e., food security, health, education), the risk of children becoming homeless, and the state planning and policy efforts. At the time this report was published there were 197,000 children living in poverty. 12,047 were homeless and 5,060 were under the age of 6 years. More than 40 percent of Wisconsin k-12 students qualify for free or reduced-price meals. Information related to how the budget will specifically impact education is available at http://fairfundingforourfuture.org/ and http://dpi.wi.gov/pb/pdf/fairfunding.pdf I am also posting information at http://parent-educator-connection.blogspot.com/
Thanks again for sharing information about Wisconsin’s current situation.
