Teaching Secrets: The Last Day of School is a piece I wrote a few years ago for Education Week, and it still holds true — for me, at least. I thought readers might find it useful in case you haven’t seen it already.
Unfortunately, for some reason I don’t have the link to it that lets you read it without registering at Ed Week. However, it is free, easy and quick to register to see it all, and you also get the benefit of seeing other great content they have, too.

My response from an elementary perspective is at the link below. Most teachers I’ve known do the celebration, but some skip the movie/music part, and now that we are on a full day at the end, they do something educational at the start of the day, because that is just too long to have them “play” all day.
