I’ve recently re-started an effort I’ve tried to do previously by regularly highlighting previous posts and articles I’ve shared in previous years that I think might be worth a second look.
Today, I’m highlighting an excerpt from one of my books that The Washington Post published. The excerpt is titled Five ways to get kids to want to read and write.
Here’s an excerpt:
I couldn’t agree more. I am so tired of seeing teachers and parents alike using extrinsic motivators to get their kids to read or complete any academic tasks as a matter of fact. Teachers and parents need to learn that what sticks with people is that which is intrinsically motivating. I eat because I am hungry; I read because I can learn and expand my knowledge; I do what I do to become a better person. I appreciate your thought as it aligns with my own philosophy also reflected in Daniel Pink’s book “Drive.”
I am a teacher also and spoke from the experience I have from working with others in my school.
