My close friend and community organizing mentor, Mary Ochs, sent me this very interesting video of Pablo Igesias, the leader of a new political party in Spain that, according to the Wall Street Journal, “has soared to the top of opinion polls.”

Though some of his terminology will sound “doctrinaire,” he pretty much provides a very clear description of effective community organizing.

Here’s what he says to progressives who complain when the “working class” won’t listen to them:

They understand the enemy when he talks, and then don’t understand you, and it’s possible that you’re right and you can ask your children to put a placard on your grave: “He was always right, though nobody knew.”

The video is in Spanish, but if you click “cc,” you’ll see a very accurate English captioning of his speech.
