I recently made the crazy decision to teach students in the California State University, Sacramento teacher credential program about how to teach English Language Learners.
The class meets one night a week. Thankfully, it’s only the last eight weeks of each semester, so it doesn’t start for a couple of weeks.
It’s the first time I’ve taught a college-level course though, of course, I led many trainings for adults during my nineteen-year community organizing career.
I’m appreciative at how supportive the other instructors in the program have been as I try to figure things out.
Feel free to offer me advice in the comments section!
Students appreciate when your class is as practical as possible! Since you’ve done lots of training, you are probably already there. They like rubrics, a clear idea of what is expected, and collaboration. Use all those tech tools to keep them connected. Good luck and enjoy!
Always tell a story about your students that relates to the lesson!
It’s what you do already in your posts an it makes the concepts sticky!
