You have probably heard about the awful incident in a South Carolina classroom today.

Here’s the video and related articles:

Video Shows Officer Flipping Student in South Carolina, Prompting Inquiry is from The New York Times.

Video of police officer throwing student across classroom prompts investigation is from The Washington Post.

Vox provides the best background on the incident and on the issue of police in schools, though I’m not a big fan of the headline, The brutal Spring Valley High School video shows what happens when you put cops in schools. Though there have sometimes been issues with officers at our school over the years, generally they’ve been helpful. So, though I think we have a lot to do to combat the school-to-prison pipeline, including restorative practices, I’m not ready to say police should not be present in our schools.

We obviously don’t see what has gone on prior to the video, but I just can’t see how that level of violence can be justified.

Let me know if what your thoughts and help me grow in my thinking…
