Regular readers of blog know that I’m not a big fan of explicit grammar instruction outside of students using online grammar practice sites for reinforcement (see The Best Sites For Grammar Practice, which I recently updated and revised).

I’m prompted to share this info because Education Week published an interesting piece today titled Will the Common Core Step Up Schools’ Focus on Grammar?
I was struck by this paragraph:
Our English Department is exploring instructional ideas to effectively strengthen our grammar instruction.
