The New Yorker, just about my favorite magazine (hard copy or digital), today released a new free iPhone app they call The New Yorker Today.

What’s the big deal, you might ask?

Here’s why:

It offers a fast, simple way to get everything that The New Yorker produces—the magazine, the Web site, the videos, and the podcasts. The stories in the main feed are selected by our editors, and it’s updated constantly. The app is available right now on iPhones, and everything, for a while at least, is free.

Did you notice that last word? Free.

I’ve been a subscriber for years, but it isn’t cheap.  So the new app might be the next best thing for anyone who doesn’t want to fork over the dough for a full subscription…
