You’ll want to watch this trailer of “Birth Of A Nation.”

The first trailer for The Birth of a Nation, this year’s grand jury prize winner at the Sundance Film Festival, has arrived.

Nate Parker, wrote, directed and stars as Nat Turner, the leader of the 1831 Virginia slave rebellion. The movie co-stars Gabrielle Union, Armie Hammer and Oscar nominee Jackie Earle Haley.

The trailer is set to Nina Simone’s cover of Billie Holiday’s 1939 classic Strange Fruit, a protest song about the racism and lynchings that were commonplace at the time.

Fox Searchlight bought the film for a record $17.5 million; it’s due in theaters Oct. 7.
