NewsGuard is a new and free browser extension that provides rates the credibility of news sources (you can read more about it at today’s New York Times article, Veterans of the News Business Are Now Fighting Fakes).
It looks pretty interesting, and it could have a lot of potential. They are specifically targeting libraries and educators, and have a decent, though simple, lesson plan on informational literacy on their site.
It would be nice if they had a complete list of news sources and how they rate each, but it appears they don’t – or, at least, I can’t find it. Once you have the browser extension, it will tell you the rating of the site when you go there or when it appears in search results.
I’m adding it to The Best Tools & Lessons For Teaching Information Literacy – Help Me Find More.
