I read about the new documentary “Circles” today in the San Francisco Chronicle article, ‘Circles’ shows the power of restorative justice in Oakland schools.

Here’s an excerpt:

“Circles,” which screens at San Jose’s Cinequest Film Festival on Saturday, March 16, highlights Butler’s work convening restorative justice “circles” in West Oakland’s Ralph J. Bunche High School. These are safe spaces for students to have straight-talking conversations about themselves, to work through the ways trauma has sabotaged their self-worth and academic progress. They’re where Butler is dedicated to reimagining school discipline as something less punitive, more attuned to addressing the core causes of teens’ conflicts and encouraging accountability for their missteps.

You can go to the Circles website, and I’m embedding the trailer below.
