McSweeney’s Magazine has a great contest. Unfortunately, I just learned about it and the deadline is this Friday.

Here’s how they describe it:

The editors of the McSweeney’s Quarterly are working on a special feature for an upcoming issue about how Americans perceive the composition of America, and we need your help.

More than ever before, we find ourselves wondering: Who are Americans? What makes us up? We’d like to hear from you. To submit, just hand draw a circle and divide it into a pie chart that represents who Americans are today. It can be literal or poetic, simple or complex.

Scan and email your pie chart to contact@mcsweeneys.net with the subject line “American Pie” by April 12, 2019, along with your name, age, City/State, and a 1-3 sentence bio.

Even if it’s too late for students to participate, the idea itself and examples from the winners can be used in the classroom for years to come!
