I was in a small meeting of district and school staff yesterday, and it was mentioned that grades of students tend to go down second semester from first semester. This observation was said to be based on research, though they couldn’t cite it.

After thinking about it, that also resonates with my experience.

It’s prompting me to think about how to combat this issue, and to plan on doing some lessons at the beginning of the second semester next year.

I’d love to find actual research that substantiates this belief, but I’m only able to find information on twelfth-grade “seniorititis.”

Does anyone know of studies on this topic?
