Five years ago I began this regular feature where I share a few posts and resources from around the Web related to ESL/EFL or to language in general that have caught my attention.

I’m adding this next tweet to The Best Resources On Professional Development For Teachers — Help Me Find More:

Here are some tweets I shared during a recent Twitter chat – they may or may not be useful (it’s worth looking up the entire chat):
I don’t know about the “master educator” part, but I do think it’s a good article about a good program. In fact, we are expanding it next school with what we feel is a “final” piece of the puzzle – adding heritage language classes for them. #ELMagChat https://t.co/rQe4q1ZPf8

A5: One way schools can support and recognize bilingualism is offer good language proficiency assessments so students can receive credit for their foreign language requirements AND offer heritage language classes #ELMagChat

A4: Home visits are a great way to engage with parents of ELLs and parents of all students. The @PTHVP is a great resource. If we don’t speak the home language of a parent, a staffperson who does can accompany us. The district provides stipends to visitors. #ELMagChat

A3: Plenty of research documents that ELLs are more likely to have a growth mindset and tend to be particularly creative because of their experiences. Encouraging them to model these strengths are great opportunities to highlight assets instead of “deficits” #ELMagChat

A2: I would also add that on-going professional development is needed – not just “one-and-done,” and that this PD should be focused on practical strategies that help all students – good ELL teaching is good teaching for everybody! #ELMagChat https://t.co/FmjyF6cEfr
