Our district is closed down and is not planning any kind of remote learning for students. On Monday, they say they will give us information on what their expectations for us is going to be during the closure.
I thought it would be useful to ask this question on social media:
If you’re a teacher at a closed school that is NOT doing remote learning, what is your district telling you are their work expectations (if any) for you during the closure?

Here are some responses – please share yours in the comments section:
We are not working. All the buildings in our district closed yesterday at 6PM and our badges will have no access until the 30th. Custodians will be deep cleaning and nurses are working full time from home or other locations. There is a core admin team who will be working too.

As of now we are closed starting Wednesday as we prepare for remote learning but we may close sooner. As for staff, they are flexible if we are not comfortable coming in. Flexibility is the name of the game. We will get through this.

So far just that we are to be available during the closure if needed. Hints of some eLearning to come from the Ontario government (not run by teachers??) but nothing actually in place yet. I have an ESL Google Classroom, Raz Kids, Lalilo, and @WriteReaderApp that SOME can access.

Many of my kiddos don’t yet have the internet at home or only have a parent’s phone with a data plan as a “device” for learning. We can’t expect them to do online learning, but I wanted to ensure that those who were asking for online options had some. 🙂

Nothing.

We have been told that we are closed and or the next two weeks we can post work but students are not required to complete the work and we are not allowed to grade it.

We were readying for this pretty much all week, so we had packets ready for all subjects. We’ve ensured students have our email, Google Classroom, and in some cases Remind contact info. We’re expected to be responsive during work hours.

We have none at this time. We received the notification about closing yesterday, and we have been told to stay clear of campus, that admins will be working from home.

Nothing except to check for updates.

My school is closed without remote learning at least until March 27. I am unaware of my work expectations at the moment. I am monitoring my work email and grading/giving feedback to students on submitted assignments (we had a big step to our research papers due our first day out)

SJUSD Ts hv “virtual office hours” (8:30-10:30am, 12:30-2:30pm M-F) starting W, 3-17-20. We have been directed to not assign anything; this a time of “reading, revision and enrichment.” Nothing will be graded from this time; current due dates R extended. Learning is optional. 😐

Checking email every day at some point and responding to students and parents. Posting enrichment opportunities this first week. And staying tune for updates in a week.

Schools closed. No remote learning. The expectation is that we are not working; we were directed to enable a scripted auto-reply e-mail.

None due to equity issues.
— Christina Terranova, M. Ed. , S. Ed. (@ESLswood) March 14, 2020
Only check emails for updates. Selfcare and not to post required work for students. They said it was ok to post optional fun activities only if we wanted.
— Mely Aguilera (@profemely) March 15, 2020
That’s a great question. Right now the answer is no one know what anyone is doing stay tuned for email number 19 on what we think we are going to have you do until we change our mind again.

We are on shutdown for 3 weeks. Our school just told us we are not allowed into the school for any reason. There were no guidelines for work to be sent home, or requirements for what we should do for the shutdown. Our governor announced that we would not have to make up the days

I posted the same question on Facebook in a couple of places. Those posts are all public, but I figured I’d make a it a little easier for people to read and just screenshot responses:
Valentina Gonzalez shared my question to a Facebook group for ELL educators, and there were a lot of responses. However, it’s a private group, so I don’t feel comfortable sharing them here.
Okay, it’s your turn. If you’re in this situation, what are administrators telling you?
