Now that the state of California has decided most schools are beginning the year with distance learning, my mind is beginning to plan and to race…
One question I’m dealing with is how to schedule students for virtual individual meetings.
I was disappointed to discover that the Google Classroom calendar doesn’t work for this kind of scheduling, which seems odd to me – I’m sure I’m not the only teacher who is going to have students schedule appointments!
I put the question out on Twitter, and here are some of the responses I received (I haven’t had time to finalize a decision – let me know your thoughts!):
Does anybody know if it’s possible to set up the Calendar feature in Google Classroom so that students can schedule appointments with me? If that’s possible, can you point me direction of instructions? Or do I have do a Google Calendar separately?

“Appointment slots” is a feature you can set up in the weekly view of a google calendar. If you go to Calendar & select the Classroom’s calendar, it seems like you should be able to go into week view & set it up. Then copy the link for signups & post to G Classroom.

I like YouCanBookMe: https://t.co/GALax5RzrI sync your Google calendar with YouCanBookMe, and when students make an appointment, it automatically syncs to your Google Calendar

You could set up appointment slots and then share the link to the signup page. https://t.co/myt6KRid0K

Not sure within google classroom, but you can use Calendly with your google calendar to book appointments. Very slick tool!

Google forms has an appt calendar but I don’t think the GC Calendar can do that

Larry – have you tried https://t.co/tKORQ4ETvR? It integrates with Google Calendar, and you can have 1 type of appointment free.

@Calendly definitely solves this problem nicely. you can also use the calendar & set up appointment slots, but it’s not as easy.

Google Calendar has appointment slots. You can create those and then share the link to your students in Google Classroom so they can select a slot. This would be helpful for virtual hours, small group or 1:1 student conferencing.

Your Google classroom is attached to your calendar. Students can send you appointment requests but you must approve them before they are inserted into the master calendar.

This can be done in the top menu on the left hand side. Once you approve the meet it creates the date and time.

I’ve done that. Open GCal,click to create a new appointment, select Appointment Slot instead of event, select Calendar for the GClassroom course instead of your calendar, enter available times, meeting duration, etc. Post link for students to schedule times.

Jenny Vo:
We use SignUp Genius. You create appointment slots and send the link to the students to sign up.
