Thanks to Alice Mercer, I learned that Zoom is hosting a free Zoom Academy to learn its ins-and-outs on July 29th and 30th.

The second day looks particularly attractive to me because that’s when it appears they will delving into its mechanics.

I don’t know about you, but since I’m going to be spending many hours each day on Zoom, I feel like I have to become familiar with everything about it.

In the spring, I used a different video conference tool called 8×8, which worked very well with small groups of students (I had an eighteen student Newcomer class, and my IB Theory of Knowledge classes just gave presentations in groups of 6-12).

But this time around my class sizes range from eighteen-to-thirty-five, so I’m going to be using breakout rooms, and often with student teachers or peer tutors in them.

I’ve been spending the past few days doing planning my classes, and it’s clear that I better become a Zoom expert pretty darn fast!
